Part of the fun of staying on snow is getting here. Most people park at the Bullocks Flat Skitube Terminal and come up to Perisher Valley by skitube (see below).
Please note
Our lodge is located on snow, high up in the Snowy Mountains so getting to us in ski season is a little more involved than just hopping in the car! Due to snow coverage and road closures, please note the following:
Once you've arrived at Perisher Valley (by skitube, bus or private car), you'll ride up to us in an oversnow vehicle which is a special purpose built vehicle for our unique environment. To take your oversnow transfer present to the 4Site desk located inside the Perisher Skitube Terminal (upstairs next to the baggage lift). You cannot book your oversnow transfer prior to arrival.
Free overnight parking is at Bullocks Flat Skitube Terminal. From Bullocks Flat it's about a 10minute skitube ride to Perisher Valley. Pre-purchase your ticket online. Select an overnight return pass. Tickets are date based, not time based. You cannot pre-book a tube departure time. Please note that time restrictions apply for guests traveling with luggage in peak hours, please see the skitube timetable for details.
Catching the skitube is VERY easy and really convenient. First drive to Bullock Flat Skitube Terminal which is about 15 minutes from Jindabyne. Heading out of Jindabyne on Kosciuszko Road, take the "Thredbo" turn off onto Alpine Way. Drive about 10minutes and the skitube turn off will be on your right, immediately after Lake Crackenback. The terminal is located below the snowline. Of course snow can at times fall below the snowline, however chains are rarely required to get to the terminal but keep an eye on road/weather conditions for your arrival and departure days to ensure you are prepared.
Once you arrive at Bullocks Flat Skitube Terminal, unload your car in the designated unload area alongside the terminal and then park your car in the overnight car park. There are luggage trolleys for hire if you require that can be wheeled onto the tube. When you arrive in Perisher, your luggage can be taken up in the baggage lift which opens right next to the 4Site desk and your oversnow transfer. Find out more about skitube.
Valet Parking/Shuttle and Private Car Transfers
As an alternative to skitube, there are a few local operators offering private 4WD, shuttle transfers and off mountain valley parking. Drive to Jindabyne, leave your car and be driven up to Perisher Valley by a local driver.
Q. Can we park at Valhalla Lodge in ski season?
A. No. There is no overnight parking in ski season at our lodge nor on the mountain in Perisher. Free overnight Parking is off-mountain at Bullocks Flat SkiTube Terminal.
Q. Can we park in the Perisher Day Car Park?
A. No. The Perisher car park during ski season is for day parking only. Parking here overnight risks being fined plus damage to your car due to snow clearing operations.
Q. Can we drive up to Valhalla Lodge and drop our bags off?
A. No. You cannot drive all the way to Valhalla Lodge during ski season as there are road closures in place. We DO NOT recommend driving up to the Perisher day car park to drop your bags. This will add unnecessary time to your journey, you will require a NPWS pass, chains or a 4WD and you will probably encounter lengthy traffic and hazardous road conditions.
Flights operate into both Canberra and the Snowy Mountains (Cooma) Airports. Transport options from the airports to Perisher are as follows:
Coaches depart from Newcastle, Sydney or Canberra. Note: not all services drive up to Perisher. You may have to book a Thredbo service and alight enroute at Bullocks Flat Skitube Terminal and take the skitube to Perisher Valley.
Small group bus options
During summer season (between October and June Long Weekends), roads are open to our lodge. Options to get here include: self drive and private transfer or private bus. Unfortunately to the best of our knowledge there are no public buses during summer season, excluding the school bus.
Driving Instructions
Our lodge is located at 31 Candle Heath Road, Perisher Valley NSW 2624
Once you drive through Jindabyne, stay on Kosciuszko Road through to Perisher Valley. Turn left onto Porcupine Road and left onto Candle Heath Road, following all the way to the top. Parking is available at the lodge or in the Perisher car park.
NPWS Entry and Overnight Fees
The Kosciuszko National Park motor vehicle entry fee is approximately $17 per vehicle per day or alternatively it can be included in the NPWS annual "All Parks Pass". Passes can be purchased online, at the toll booths upon entry to the park or at the Perisher and Jindabyne NPWS offices. The toll booths may be closed when you enter the park, if so, you can purchase the next morning from the Perisher NPWS office.
Chains
After October long week to the start of the June long weekend, chains are not compulsory, however please be aware that it can snow up here at any time of the year. It is your responsibility to check the weather forecast and plan your arrival vehicle accordingly. NPWS only clear the roads on weekdays.
